Belthangadi:’Honey bee’ attacks worshipers

Belthangadi:March.24: More than 80 people were injured when ‘Honey Bee’ attacked them on Sunday evening. Around 500 Christian worshippers hailing from Belthangadi Holy Ridimar Church were going to offer prayers at ‘Gudaikallu’ hill which is 1100 feet in hight at Belthangadi on the occasion of ‘Black Month’ prayers which falls prior to ‘Good Friday’. The team reached the hill at 2.30 pm in different vehicles and started climbing the hill. Church Father James D’Souza and his deputy,Father Melwin Narohna led the team.

After offering the prayers,church Father James D’Souza urged the worshippers to return to their homes without chasing the honey bees which might attack them. But a team from Ujire started climbing the hill and all of a sudden the bees started attacking them. It was a narrow path and no one can run here and there on the hill. Elderly persons,women and children were also in the team. The persons who went up could not come down.

First aid was provided to the injured at the bottom of the hill. Few of them recieved moderate injuries. 7-8 People were taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Social workers and locals came to the help of the visitors when the news spread about the incident
