Gangulli Misbahul Uloom masjid construction;village panchayath refuses permission
Gangulli:April1: Even though Udupi DC has directed Gangulli village panchayath to give permission for the construction of ‘Misbahul Uloom’ masjid, the village panchayath is not responding. The members of the managing committee are paying visits to the concerned departments since last 3 years but in vain. The locals have shown their anger over the villange panchayath’s stand.‘Misbahul Uloom’ institution(Madrasa) was established 20 years ago in Gangulli and more than 150 students are studying in the Madrasa. The managing committee has decided to construct a masjid near the Madrasa for the convenience of offering prayers for the students as well as 120 surrounding residents. An application was submitted to the village panchayath on Dec.6,2010.
The village panchayath has sought a guidelines from the Udupi DC when ‘Hindu Jagarana Vedike’ has objected for the construction of masjid at a Panchayath meeting. The managing committee of the Madrasa has submitted an application to the DC office for the permission of Majid construction.
Later Udupi Dist.Commissioner paid a visit and made an inspection of the area. There is nothing wrong in constructing a masjid near the Madrasa and it is not good to hurt the religious feeling by not giving permission for the construction of the masjid he opined. On Oct 18,2012,he instructed the Panchayath development officer to give permission if the application was submitted with all legal forms.
In between the Madrasa managing committee has started the work on the construction of the masjid. It has once again submitted an application to the village panchayath on Dec.10,2012 according to DC’s direction. Kundapur Taluk Panchayath has also instructed the village panchayath to give permission for the construction of the Masjid after following the legal procedures.
On Jan 3,2013 the PDO officer has instructed the Madrasa committee to stop the construction work. The committee has clarified the PDO that the work on the construction was started due to not receiving any response from the panchayath office even after submitting the application before 2 months. But the village panchayath has neglected the orders of the DC and the Taluk Panchayath and has shown their helplessness in front of the pressure from ‘Hindu Jagarana Vedike’.
The Misbahul Uloom Madrasa committee has decided to appeal in the High Court against Gangulli village panchayath’s decision for refusing to give permission for Masjid construction said committee member Mansoor to the press.
