Gitex Shopper back in Dubai, twice in a year now

This Gitex Shopper, expect smartphone prices to drop by almost 20 per cent as newer models are expected to hit the market.

At least five new smartphone models are expected to be launched in the UAE market during the next four to eight weeks, and “there is going to be some serious offers this Gitex Shopper,” said an official from Sharaf DG, who also said that he is not supposed to give out details on offers prior to the event that starts on April 3.
“The prices of Samsung S3 are expected to officially drop,” said one salesperson from Emax. The last time the price of the Galaxy S3 dropped was during last year’s Gitex Shopper, when it was reduced from Dh2,400 to Dh2,099. The non-LTE model of the Galaxy S3 is currently priced at Dh2,099 across leading electronic stores and might drop by almost Dh200 to Dh300 this Gitex Shopper. The LTE model of the smartphone is priced at more than Dh2,300.
Similarly expect a drop in the prices of BlackBerry Bold as well. The BlackBerry Q10, which was launched along with the full touch Z10 is expected to hit the market in April. BlackBerry fans, who have been waiting for the qwerty version of the BB10 should not be disappointed as the Q10 will in all probability be released simultaneously in the UAE along with the global release.
Currently the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is priced at Dh1,850. Expect some interesting offers on these and other older BlackBerry models. “We have had many enquiries about the Q10, but BlackBerry officials are yet to confirm the exact date. We do not think it will be out in April. That is what we are telling our customers as well,” said one salesperson from Sharaf DG.
According to him the BlackBerry Z10 continues to sell at a reasonable rate. Another model that is popular on demand is the Sony Xperia Z. The phone was launched last month and is priced at around Dh2,500.
Meanwhile, most stores  visited during the last two days said there would be more of bundle offers this Gitex Shopper compared to frop in prices of most electronic goods. “Expect to get free printers, wireless mouse and keyboards, free antivirus softwares and a host of other freebies,” said a sales staff at Jacky’s. Emax says it will continue to offer free Emax and Centrepoint gift vouchers along with other free gifts.
For those interested in tablets, iPads and Galaxy notes may not have any major discounts, but expect serious competition from scores of low-end android powered tablets. Some of the brands are pricing their 7 inch android tablets as low as Dh180.
Among the brands set to launch new products this Gitex is Dell. The company says it plans to unveil its latest consumer tablet the XPS 10, and showcase other existing touch screen devices such as the XPS 12 convertible Ultrabook XPS One 27, Inspiron 15, Inspiron 15z and Inspiron 15R at this year’s Gitex Shopper.

The XPS 10 is runs on Windows RT and is powered by dual-core ARM architecture with a HD multi-touch display and split screen capability. It comes with an optional mobile keyboard dock featuring a full-sized keyboard and touchpad.

Gangulli Misbahul Uloom masjid construction;village panchayath refuses permission

Gangulli:April1: Even though Udupi DC has directed Gangulli village panchayath to give permission for the construction of ‘Misbahul Uloom’ masjid, the village panchayath is not responding. The members of the managing committee are paying visits to the concerned departments since last 3 years but in vain. The locals have shown their anger over the villange panchayath’s stand.

‘Misbahul Uloom’ institution(Madrasa) was established 20 years ago in Gangulli and more than 150 students are studying in the Madrasa. The managing committee has decided to construct a masjid near the Madrasa for the convenience of offering prayers for the students as well as 120 surrounding residents. An application was submitted to the village panchayath on Dec.6,2010.

The village panchayath has  sought a guidelines from the Udupi DC when ‘Hindu Jagarana Vedike’ has objected for the construction of masjid at a Panchayath meeting. The managing committee of the Madrasa has submitted an application to the DC office for the permission of Majid construction.

Later Udupi Dist.Commissioner paid a visit and made an inspection of the area. There is nothing wrong in constructing a masjid near the Madrasa and it is not good to hurt the religious feeling by not giving permission for the construction of the masjid he opined. On Oct 18,2012,he instructed the Panchayath development officer to give permission if the application was submitted with all legal forms.

In between the Madrasa managing committee has started the work on the construction of the masjid. It has once again submitted an application to the village panchayath on Dec.10,2012 according to DC’s direction. Kundapur Taluk Panchayath has also instructed the village panchayath to give permission for the construction of the Masjid after following  the legal procedures.

On Jan 3,2013 the PDO officer has instructed the Madrasa committee to stop the construction work. The committee has clarified the PDO that the work on the construction was started due to not receiving any response  from the panchayath office even after submitting the application before 2 months. But the village panchayath has neglected the orders of the DC and the Taluk Panchayath and has shown their helplessness in front of the pressure from ‘Hindu Jagarana Vedike’.

The Misbahul Uloom Madrasa committee has decided to appeal in the High Court against Gangulli village panchayath’s decision  for refusing to give permission for Masjid construction said committee member Mansoor to the press.

AirAsia incorporates Indian venture; files all papers with MCA

New Delhi, Mar 31, 2013, (PTI) : Gearing up to launch services in partnership with Tatas, Malaysian low-cost carrier AirAsia has incorporated a company in India with the filing of all requisite documents with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The venture, AirAsia (India) Pvt Ltd, was incorporated as an “Indian non-government company” with its registered office in Mumbai. It will be an “unlisted” company, as per the documents filed with the Registrar of Companies (RoC).

The private sector company was incorporated on March 28, 2013 with an initial authorised capital of Rs 5 lakh.
A company can change its share capital, as also other details, at a later stage.

Most of the existing air carriers present in the country, including SpiceJet, Go Air, Kingfisher, Jet Airways and IndiGo have authorised share capitals running into hundreds of crores of rupees, their RoC filings show.

Among various documents submitted by AirAsia (India), the incorporation certificate was filed on March 28, while Article of Association, Memorandum of Association, image of airline logo and other forms were filed earlier on March 11.

Prior to that, AirAsia had registered the name for its Indian venture on March 1, after getting the necessary approval from the ministry.

The filing process for this new venture has been completed on a fast-track basis, a senior official said.

AirAsia chief Tony Fernandez has also tweeted that the company formation has been done for the Indian venture.

“Airasia India pvt has been formed. One more step. Been studying the Indian market hard. Exciting. We can make a difference,” he wrote on the micro-blogging site.

The Foreign Investment Promotion Board has already approved investment in the new venture, wherein Malyasia-based AirAsia would hold 49 per cent stake, Tata Sons will have 30 per cent and 21 per cent stake would be owned by Telestra Tradeplace’s Arun Bhatia, whose son is married to the daughter of NRI billionaire Lakshmi Mittal.

Being started with an initial investment of USD 14.5 million (about Rs 80 crore), AirAsia India will compete in the domestic passenger aviation space with Jet Airways, Spicejet, IndiGo, Go Air and state-run Air India.

The airline now needs to get a no-objection certificate from the Aviation Ministry, and thereafter an air transport license from the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) to be declared a scheduled airline.

AirAsia India would also mark the re-entry of Tatas into the aviation space after about 60 years of JRD Tata-founded Air India being nationalised in 1953.

AirAsia and Tatas announced their plans to start the low-cost airline in India on February 20, while the FIPB approved the foreign investment for the venture in March.
